More support for blood cancer patients

Sunday, August 25, 2019

The Chair of The Bloody Great Committee Marie Piccin was delighted to present a cheque for $3,401.79 to the Head of Concord Hospital's Haematology Department Prof Judith Trotman last week. These funds will enable more blood cancer patients to participate in the world-leading clinical trials at Concord Hospital and give them greater hope for a cure.

The cheque was for the balance of The Bloody Great Committee's bank account, which will now be closed following the establishment of Foundation for a Bloody Great Cause Limited, which has its own new bank accounts to support its fundraising activities.

Thanks to everyone who contributed towards this latest donation to the Haematology Clinical Research Unit at Concord Hospital through your donations and attending our fundraising events. We couldn't do it without you!

In Memory of James Woo

Wednesday, August 14, 2019

Earlier this week Dion Woo caught up with Prof Judith Trotman, Head of Haematology at Concord Hospital, to present a cheque for $5,300. Dion's father James passed away recently and these funds were collected from family and friends at his funeral in his memory.

James was treated for his Leukaemia and was cared for at Concord Haematology, Concord Hospital and Dion and his family wanted to recognise this by raising funds for Concord's world-leading blood cancer clinical trials. This is in addition to the $2,697 they raised for our cause in September last year, through a Linfluencer event fundraiser.

Our sincere condolences to the Woo family at the sad loss of James. Thank you for your generosity towards our important cause, which will give more patients hope for a cure.

Leading Patients to Concord Hospital

Monday, August 05, 2019

Yesterday, Channel 10 put a spotlight on a fantastic App called ClinTrialRefer, which helps doctors connect patients with clinical trials. It's what led John Sutherland, a sheep farmer from Jerilderie NSW, to Concord Hospital to participate in a clinical trial for his rare blood cancer - Hairy Cell Leukaemia.

John said - "Two pills, twice a day. My bloods are improving still after 12 months and there we are."

John's wife added - "Really, it's saved his life!"

This is another fantastic example of how the world-leading blood cancer clinical trials at Concord Hospital are saving lives and giving patients hope for a cure!
